Our place in FLL
Here's the real place to eat with excellent food and a very active high quality crowd and piano bar...prices are for the stable foodie clientele, not too high but fine All-American GAY relaxed male. C U THERE!!
OK piano bar atmosphere
I was the 3rd youngest man that night...which really isn't a problem. Nice piano player/singer. Just a sedate - at best - time.
Tired or retired?
Expensive, food just average.
Nice piano bar.
Enjoyable place any afternoon of the week.
Hi
Hello!!!
LUV THIS PLACE!
I am a local and only 47 and I LOVE THIS PLACE! It definitely has an older gay crowd - imagine Liberaces birthday party and then you get the feel for the Tropics. They have the best piano bar around singing all of the old show tunes and such. I take my Dad here whenever he is in town and he luvs it. Great food specials and the food is actually really good. Try the jambalaya and the prime rib - YUM! This place isnt for everyone but is is u want t a different fun time and come with an open mind.
Terrible dinner
The Florida Department of of Business and Professional Regulation temporarily closed TROPICS down October 4, 2012 because of the many heallth and code violations. Cut a paste link below to view the full report.

Bring The Old Owners BACK!
As a dining guest that has visitied the Tropics for many years while visiting Lauderdale and Wilton Manors, my partner and I were totally let down by the food, service and energy. In the past a visit to the Tropics was fun, the servers were upbeat and the food not like it came out of a warming tray. We even asked our server if the resturant was under new ownership and he hesitated giving us a response (probably because he had been asked that question many times before). We had heard rumors prior to going that a change had happened but in fairness we wanted to give it a shot. After many years going there this will have been our last. The new name should be Tragedy @ the Tropics.
If Your Taste Buds are DEAD ........ come here.
Inedible food!
There is no way else to put it .
Good Food, friendly, sociable, and a mix of the young at heart crowd
The restaurant layout is great, with the blue lights of the large sea salt aquarium bathing the bar, and piano area. The Bar/Restaurant is always filled with friendly, sociable, unpretentious, well-educated mix of the young at heart crowd; usually referred to as a mature. The food is really good, and so its the service, and bar staff. I like the place, you feel welcome, relaxed, people smile, some may give you a nice compliment and may strike an intelligent conversation while waiting for a table by the bar, and not a pick-up line. . The well-heeled group competes for bragging rights from escorted trophy boys out for dinners. Others, may be activist, retired, or aficionados of leisure life, and are not trolls. If anyone cares to listen, many trolls paved the road for us to be openly gay and have great insight and advice. If you are a young buck dont get sassy, be yourself, and show respect. Several times I have heard young gays come in, make derogatory comments. Whatever the formula, it works: sorry for editorializing.
A "must do" when visiting gay Ft. Lauderdale
We always have a meal at Tropics when visiting Ft. Lauderdale. It is an up beat, very popular place for a good looking, mature crowd. We enjoy the people watching as well as the food!
Always packed !
This bar/restuarant has been around for years and years. They are always packed. This is a mature crown bar. Just remember that when you go. VERY few of the younger crowd go here. Located in the Wilton Manor area, they are open for lunch and dinner and the bar is open all the time. They have a great lunch buffet with happy hour prices. They offer a nice selection in the dinner menu and some nights are two for one. Also a huge bar (three rooms) with wonderful live piano bar music. If your into mature men, this is THE bar to go to. Two great entertainers to see here are "Tony & Gloria" at the piano and also "Chris of South Beach" at the piano. Very and we do mean VERY friendly crowd.
