The award winning Sidelines Sports & Video Bar celebrates its nine year anniversary on May 12th, 2015 with a line-up of events and promotions starting on Tuesday, May 12th, 2015 through Sunday, May 17th, 2015. Laurie Whittaker, Owner of Sidelines Sports & Video Bar opened the doors to the public on May 12th, 2006. A gay sports bar, one of only a handful around the country at the time of opening and one of only three bars on Wilton Drive at that time. As a pioneer in the market, Sidelines set the trend for a growing number of gay sports bars that have opened, sharing in the success of this growing niche market, as featured in Bloomberg Businessweek. With the expansion of sports appreciation and enthusiasm in the gay and lesbian community and more and more gay athletic and sports associations forming around the country sports has become a vehicle for the development of community, connecting, and bonding with one another.
Sidelines quickly became one of the most popular sports bars in all of South Florida, and into a nationally-known LGBT destination spot. Sidelines Sports & Video Bar has been a part of the community and been supporting the community through donations and events for nine years which translated over the course of the years to over to One Million Dollars that Sidelines has donated back into the local community by partnering with nonprofits such as the Florida Aids Walk, Poverello, FAFFL, The Pride Center, The Smart Ride, The Soup Kitchen, Sunserve, Broward House, Arrow, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and many, many more. Laurie Whittaker feels “The community becomes your family and, frankly, you have to take care of your family,”
Sidelines has been a success in Wilton Manors due to its loyal patrons and out-of-town customers who enjoyed the fun and friendly atmosphere, excellent customer service, attention to cleanliness, and comfortable ambiance. Voted #1 Gay Sports Bar in South Florida this year by Local 10 viewers, and awarded the Best Community Supporter award by the Florida Aids Walk and Music Festival. Sidelines has also won numerous accolades over the years including “Best Casual Bar" and "Best Place to Go Out by Yourself". Laurie and the entire team at Sidelines Sports & Video Bar invite you to come out and join them to celebrate nine years starting on May 8th, 2015.
